CFB: Memphis mascot, a Bengal tiger, dies at age 17

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — TOM II, the Bengal tiger mascot of the University of Memphis, has died. He was 17.
TOM, which stands for Tigers Of Memphis, died Wednesday. He was recently diagnosed with cancer during an annual exam.
The university plans to replace the tiger. TOM I died in 1992.
A memorial is planned at the Tigers' Homecoming game against Southern Miss on Oct. 25.
TOM II was acquired by the football booster group Highland Hundred in the fall of 1991. The group cared for TOM II during his lifetime.
