When the call came Monday to announce that he was the Pigskin Picks winner, Honolulu's Ramsey Pasatiempo couldn't answer it.
"I just got off from working overnight; worked to 6 in the morning. I went straight home and crashed out," he said.
Not that he was about to answer a missed 6 a.m. phone call. "I thought I was getting called in for work," said Pasatiempo, who has three jobs, all in the security business.
When his friend, Frank Kaiwi, got through to him at 7:45 a.m., Pasatiempo was overjoyed.
"My friend called me up and said they're (KSSK radio station) calling you," he said. "He heard my name. ... (I said), 'Are you serious? I didn't know.' "
Pasatiempo, 25, said he has "never won anything" before. "I was shocked. I even woke up my baby."
Pasatiempo, who correctly picked the winners of all 15 games on the ballot, wins a trip for two to Las Vegas and $500.
He said he "used to" go to Vegas but recently found it difficult to travel with three jobs and young children, including a 1-year-old and another on the way.
Pasatiempo said he studies how teams perform the previous week to help determine his picks, with a few exceptions.
"I don't go against my teams — Dallas (Cowboys) and UH," he said. "I always put my two teams down."
