A weather system about 300 miles north of Kaua'i will keep gentle east-southeasterly winds blowing across much of the state today, the National Weather Service said.

Stable and dry conditions will persist, with daytime sea breezes leading to increased chances for clouds and showers to develop in the afternoon.

Moderate trade winds are expected to return by tomorrow and continue through the weekend, bringing a return of typical trade wind showers in windward and mauka showers.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 82. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. East wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
