Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook's status for next week's game is undecided after he played most of yesterday's game against the Washington Redskins with two broken ribs.

The injury to Westbrook, who rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries after starting the game with an ankle injury, was announced by coach Andy Reid at a news conference today.

"We'll see how it works out for him as we go through the next few days," Reid said.

Westbrook, who also had 6 catches for 51 yards, ran for a 9-yard score midway through the first quarter of Philadelphia's 23-17 home loss to the Redskins, then went to the sidelines for treatment on the ribs.

He said after the game that he thought the ribs were bruised and expected to have them examined today after playing the remainder of the game without additional padding.

Westbrook also suffered a sprained right ankle Sept. 21 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and didn't play during the team's loss last week to the Chicago Bears.

The two-time Pro Bowl running back led the National Football League in yards from scrimmage last season with 2,104.

The Eagles play at the San Francisco 49ers Sunday.
