Abercrombie, Hirono still undecided on rescue bill

U.S. Reps. Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono say they are still reviewing the latest $700 billion financial industry bailout and haven't decided whether to support it.
The House is scheduled to vote Friday on a new version of the bill, which passed the Senate on Wednesday with a 74-25 vote. Hawai'i's senators voted in favor of it.
Abercrombie and Hirono, both Democrats, voted against the original House bailout bill on Monday.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press on Thursday, Hirono said there are many provisions in the Senate bill that she strongly supports. However, she was disappointment that even stronger taxpayer protections and direct assistance to struggling homeowners weren't included.
