Rainbow Wahine face Belmont in NCAA first round in Los Angeles

No. 6 Hawai'i will face Belmont in Friday's first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship in Los Angeles, it was announced today.
The Rainbow Wahine and Bruins will play at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time at USC's Galen Center.
San Diego (23-4) will face host Southern California (16-11) in the other first round match in Los Angeles at 5 p.m. Belmont, the Atlantic Sun champion from Nashville, Tenn., is 25-7. Winners will meet in the second round on Saturday at 5 p.m. Hawai'i time in the Galen Center.
No. 1 Penn State (32-0), which won every single set during the regular season, is the tournament's top seed.
First- and second- round matches in the 64-team tournament are being played at 16 sites.
The Rainbow Wahine (28-3), the Western Athletic Conference champions, are seeded seventh overall in the tournament. No. 2 Stanford is the highest seed in the same bracket (Fort Collins, Colo.) as Hawai'i.
Texas was seeded third and Nebraska fourth.
The Pacific-10 Conference led all conferences with six teams selected. New Mexico State, the only other WAC school selected, will play St. Mary's (Calif.) in the first round.
Second-round winners advance to the regionals Dec. 12 and 13. The winners of each of the four regional championships advance to the semifinals, Dec. 18 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
The NCAA Championship match is Dec. 20.
