Hawai'i gasoline prices fell for a ninth week, though remained well above the national average.

AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows the average statewide price for a gallon of unleaded was $2.77, or 17 cents lower than a week earlier.

That compared with the national average of $1.84 and Hawai'i continued to feature the nation's second-highest prices after Alaska's $2.82 average. Gasoline prices have been in decline as lower global demand hits crude oil prices. Crude oil for January deliver closed at $54.43 on the New York Merchantile Exchange this week, less than half of the record high of $147.27 set in July.

The AAA report also showed that: Honolulu's average price fell to $2.66 from $2.82, Hilo's price was down to $2.84 from $2.91, and Wailuku's average price declined to $3.16 from $3.33

Besides Hawai'i there were six other states and Washington D.C., where prices averaged more than $2 a gallon.

The prices are collected from fleet vehicle credit card transactions and represent the combined averages of the last card swipe of the previous day. AAA's data service does not collect the prices for Kaua'i.
