The public is invited to join in the block party between Benjamin Parker School and Kane'ohe Police Station from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Waikalua Road will be closed from 1-10 p.m.

The celebration will feature food booths, keiki rides, crafts, an antique car exhibit, visits with Santa and entertainment by the Kukui Nuts, Halau Hula o Na Wahine, Karen Keawehawaii, Ilona Irvine, the Royal Hawaiian Band, Nakama and Kapena. People can also bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann will officiate a Tree-Lighting Ceremony at approximately 6 p.m., followed by Lighting of the Kane'ohe Fire Station Christmas Tree and the Four Corners of Waikalua Road and Kamehameha Highway at 6:30 p.m.

The Kane'ohe Police and Fire stations have joined Hannemann in this celebration that is made possible with the partnership of many community sponsors - Benjamin Parker School, Exit Hawaii Dream Realty, Hope Chapel Kane'ohe Bay, Kane'ohe Christmas Parade Committee, Safety Systems, and Windward Baptist Church. Art Machado of the Kane'ohe Christmas Parade Committee has taken a lead role in helping to organize this event.

"Every year, our Windward City Lights Celebration gets bigger and better," Hannemann said. "I'm happy the city is able to bring the spirit of the season to the folks of Windward Oahu. Windward City Lights is a great addition to our long-running Honolulu City Lights celebration as well as our Kapolei City Lights parade and tree lighting ceremonies, and is fast becoming part of our growing island holiday tradition."
