Cowboys' 'Pacman' returns to practice, but can't play

Associated Press

Suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was back at work with the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, going to meetings and a practice even though he can't suit up until Dec. 7 against Pittsburgh.

Jones is allowed to do everything but play in the next game — Thursday against Seattle — as he works his way back from his latest suspension, a six-game penalty for violating the league's player conduct policy. He previously was suspended for the entire 2007 season and coach Wade Phillips said yesterday it's reasonable to believe another slip-up would get him permanently banned from the NFL.

"We've got to hope, for his sake really, that he has cleared all that up," Phillips said. "All the pressure is on him, really, to do the right thing."

By being around the team this week, Jones can start getting back into football shape. He also can start repairing whatever damage his absence might've caused in the locker room.

"He's got to prove some things, obviously, but he's going to be welcome here," said linebacker Greg Ellis, a co-captain and the defense's elder statesman.

Jones started the first six games, breaking up enough passes that he still leads the club in that category. He also was the main punt returner. The Cowboys went 4-2 with him, and are 3-2 without him.

EAGLES

MCNABB WILL START

Donovan McNabb will start when Philadelphia hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.

The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback was benched for the first time in his career at halftime of Philadelphia's 36-7 loss at Baltimore on Sunday.

Second-year pro Kevin Kolb played poorly against the Ravens, and Eagles coach Andy Reid said yesterday he's going back to McNabb.

"Sometimes you have to step back to step forward in a positive way and Donovan will do that," Reid said. "This has nothing to do with Kolb's performance or Donovan's performance."

DOLPHINS

TOP RECEIVER OUT

Miami wide receiver Greg Camarillo will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, coach Tony Sparano said.

Camarillo left Miami's 48-28 loss to New England in the second half Sunday and did not return. He underwent an MRI yesterday.

The tear in Camarillo's knee ends his breakout year with the Dolphins. He leads the Dolphins with 55 receptions for 613 yards and two touchdowns after catching a total of eight passes in his first two NFL seasons.
