Salutes
Mun Lun Chinese Language School has announced the winners of the Ninth Worldwide Chinese Students Composition Competition, who are also students at the school. They are: first place, fifth-grader Jennifer Wong, who wrote a paper commemorating her father; second place, ninth-grader Siming Liu, whose paper was entitled, "Learning Gongfu in Summer School;" third place, ninth- grader Maggie Kwock.
The Sierra Club, Hawai'i Chapter recently recognized individuals who have made a difference for Hawai'i's environment. They are: David Raney, the Malama Honua Award for protecting our special places; Lola Mench, Laulima Award for stewardship; state Rep. Cynthia Thielen, Legislative Lifetime Achievement Award; Lorin Gill, Keiki O Ka 'Aina Award for inspiring and educating youth through outings; Jim and Cindy Waddington and Reese Liggett and Suzan Harada, the Ed Stevens 'Ohana Award for steadfast commitment to the chapter; Steven Tearney, the Kokua Award for faithful volunteer service to the club.
