TODAY'S MUST-SEE:
"Desperate Housewives," 8 p.m., ABC. A fire puts everyone in danger. One man will emerge a hero, ABC says; one or more will be killed. Before that, Susan's young daughter arrives with an older guy (Steven Weber, 47). Lynette, Gabrielle and Susan learn key secrets. Then the fire starts during a battle of the bands.
TODAY'S MIGHT-SEE
"Masterpiece Contemporary: Filth," 8 p.m., PBS. In 1963, the once-grey BBC loosened its sexual standards. Mary Whitehouse (Julie Walters) launched a watchdog group; Sir Hugh Greene (Hugh Bonneville), the network chief, refused to meet her. Whitehouse persisted and may have been one reason Greene resigned six years later. She continued her dissent for three decades into her 80s. It's easy to mock her. This BBC movie does that a little, but it's mostly affectionate. With wit and style, it gets us to root for an earnest reformer.
OF NOTE
"Nature: American Eagle," 7 p.m., PBS. Once at the brink of extinction, the bald eagle has rebounded. This documentary celebrates that with the expected shots — the soaring beauty of eagles in flight — and with warm, intimate moments filmed in two nests.
"True Blood," 7 p.m., HBO. Sookie is warming up to Sam now. Her brother, however, is battered by his romance with a sexy and crazed addict.
"The Simpsons," 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., Fox. In a rerun, Bart grabs Denis Leary's cell phone. Then a new episode has Lisa as a crossword-puzzle champion.
"Cold Case," 8 p.m., CBS. Almost 20 years ago, Nick Vera was a desk cop when a Russian opera prodigy defected. Now her murder case is re-opened.
"Entourage," 8 p.m., HBO. Setting up next week's season-finale, Ari tries to rescue Vince's career and Turtle finds some unexpected bliss.
"The Unit," 9 p.m., CBS. Wrapping up a two-parter, the unit makes a daring attempt to rescue Jonas' daughter. There's a lot of action, but viewers will have to suspend disbelief.
