Fort Weaver Road to get added lanes by January
As promised, portions of Fort Weaver Road will begin to go from four lanes to six soon.
Both sides of Fort Weaver from Laulaunui Drive to Old Fort Weaver Road will be widened from two to three lanes by January, according to state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tammy Mori.
In March, the stretch from Old Fort Weaver Road south to Renton Road will widen to six lanes, Mori said.
The entire second phase of the Fort Weaver widening project, which runs south to a point just beyond Geiger Road, is now expected to be done by the end of August, she said.
In recent months, DOT has contraflowed traffic in the area during construction hours to minimize backups.
Mori said motorists can get a daily update on when and where the contraflows are at http://hawaii.gov/dot/fortweaver.
