Kahala Mall kicks off the holiday season from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow with Holi-Diva Days, a day of discounts and gifts with purchase and an evening of entertainment and fashions.

At 7 p.m., at Center Stage, jazz singer Ginai will entertain. At around 7:30 p.m., there will be an informal fashion show. Featured fashions will come from Adore, Calista, In My Closet, Jeans Warehouse, Reyn's, Shasa Emporium and VUE Hawaii. VUE's portion of the fashion show will feature designs from Kinu (pictured) and Yasuko, contemporary clothing with an Asian attitude.

In addition, Marsha Nadalin Salon and Spa is offering free fashion- forward haircuts to anyone who donates their hair to Locks of Love. Donors must have at least eight inches of hair that can be cut off. Walk-ins will be accommodated if time permits. For an appointment or more details, call 737-8505.

SOIREE A LA MODE

Four fashion-loving friends gathered 12 specialty boutique retailers and local firms to put on Soiree a la Mode, an expo-style event from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cupola Theatre, Honolulu Design Center. The offerings include a thoughtfully edited selection of locally designed jewelry and clothing for women, infants and children, as well as bath, body and spa products.

Among the participants: Eden, a women's boutique in Kailua, Kona; Vanilla Moon jewelry; Makana Mother & Baby; Pala'au, a Maui-based natural face and body care company; Helen's Haven; Paradisus jewelry; and the Shrug Queen. All are emerging players on Hawai'i's shopping scene.

It's free, no reservations required. There's also free parking in the Honolulu Design Center garage; 286-3364, www.soireealamode.com.

Fine Linens and Furnishings in the Gentry Pacific Design Center is best known for its luxurious linens, custom-designed bedding and home accents and furniture.

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, it will also become an artisans' den, as Honolulu jewelry designers Joanne Heim and Cora Yee and handbag designer Lynda Sakraida of Hadji Baba Bags present their holiday collections.

Melanie Boudar of Sweet Paradise Chocolatier will also be on hand to show off her artful confections; 589-2737, www.finelinensandfurnishings.com.

Legendary surfboard shaper Dick Brewer is the inspiration behind a new aloha shirt print by Kahala Sportswear, featuring Brewer's hand-drawn shapes of boards he created, dating back to the '60s, for champion surfers such as Jock Sutherland, Fred Hemmings and Gerry Lopez. Brewer will talk story from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kahala Sportswear store in Ala Moana Center (in the new Nordstrom wing); 524-4252, www.kahala.com.

ON OUR RADAR

ORLA KIELY CAPTURES '60S VIBE

Dublin-born Orla Kiely designs chic, feminine, funky handbags with a '60s vibe. They're a little bit Biba, a little bit Marimekko and all style. The London-based designer was first discovered at her graduation show from the Royal Academy of Art, when Harrods commissioned her to create a line of hats. Now her vibrant textile designs appear on everything from stationery to furniture.

We love her lightweight, practical handbags, which we find at Nordstrom Ala Moana. This one, in a gorgeous take on fall colors, sells for $174
