Jefferson Starship flies in town for a concert to remind us why they built this city on rock ’n’ roll. Evolved from the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane, the band’s current lineup includes original member Paul Kantner, who is joined by David Freiberg, Slick Aguilar, Chris Smith, Donny Baldwin, and vocalist Cathy Richardson, right. Expect to hear both Airplane and Starship hits such as “White Rabbit,” “Volunteers,” “Sara” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”

Hälau çO Kaululauaçe presents its Lüçau Fundraiser and Concert at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. It’s a concert under the stars with Hökü Zuttermeister, Küpaoa, Weldon Kekauoha, and a performance by the hula hälau. There will also be food booths, crafts and keiki games.

Grammy Award-winning producer, composer and artist Daniel Ho presents a concert to benefit Kalihi-Pälama Pediatrics Care Programs and St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church Outreach Ministries. Ho has recorded nearly 20 albums and is best known for his talents on the slack-key guitar, which have won him three consecutive Grammys.

Cross some names off that holiday list at the Mission Houses Museum’s 35th annual Holiday Craft Fair. In addition to a wide variety of unique hand-crafted items, there will be food and entertainment. COMEDY: DEC. 3

Comedian Robert Schimmel, below, brings his raunchy standup routine to Honolulu for two shows. Schimmel is best known for his comedy albums and appearances on HBO and “The Howard Stern Show.” This is for mature audiences: Schimmel’s material is often described as Z-rated and controversial, and almost always pertains to sex.

Thousands are expected to attend the opening night of the Honolulu City Lights extravaganza, which includes decorated Christmas trees in the City Hall courtyard, a wreath exhibit, big outdoor displays perfect for picture-taking and a corridor of twinkling lights Downtown. The opening night schedule includes the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., followed by the Electric Light Parade; tree and wreath displays opening at 6:30 p.m.; and a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m.

The Maui-based Ebb & Flow Arts present a New Music Celebration, three concerts featuring works by Per Norgard, above, Scandinavia’s leading composer. Performing are the Ebb & Flow ensemble – Scott Anderson, clarinet and bass clarinet; Ignace Jang, violin; Mark Votapek, cello; and Robert Pollock, piano — as well as guest musicians. Discussions and lectures by Norgard are also scheduled on Maui Nov. 23, and at Orvis Auditorium Nov. 25.

Legendary pop singer, pianist and songwriter Neil Sedaka performs at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. With more than 50 years in the music business, Sedaka’s music remains timeless with hits such as “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” and “Calendar Girl.” This will be Sedaka’s first performance at the Blaisdell; his usual venue in Honolulu is the Hawaiçi Theatre.

FESTIVAL: DEC. 15-21

Registration is now open for the 2008 Winter Solstice Fire Tribe Gathering festival. This multiday community celebration features song, chant, dance, drumming, poetry, visual art and spontaneous sacred ceremony. Early registration ends Sunday; late registration is through Dec. 12. Fees are $35 and up, based on number of days attending, choice of accommodations and optional meal plan.
