Former University of Hawai'i teammates Travis LaBoy and Isaac Sopoaga, who played together in 2002-03, are Hawai'i's highest-paid NFL players in 2008, according figures compiled by USA Today.

In all, more than 10 players with Hawai'i ties will earn more than $1 million in 2008.

LaBoy, a defensive end who was drafted by Tennessee but who signed with Arizona in the offseason, earns $6,503,960. Sopoaga, a defensive lineman drafted by San Francisco, earns $5,675,000.

Three former Hawai'i high school athletes — Dominic Raiola, Olin Kreutz and Ma'ake Kemoeatu — and two former UH standouts — Jason Elam and Pisa Tinoisamoa — earn at least $3 million.

Most recent Warrior stars and NFL rookies, Colt Brennan and Davone Bess, are among the lower paid by NFL standards.

Brennan, who is Washington's third quarterback after being drafted in the sixth round, earns $391,800. Bess, a receiver who sees action for Miami after making the team as a free agent, earns $302,000.

The NFL's highest-paid players in 2008 are Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who earns $27,701,920, and Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen, who gets $ 21,119,256.

Salaries for NFL players during the 2008 season are based on USA Today research, information from agents and NFL Players Association documents.

The amount listed is a player's total salary and cap value. The total salary counts the entire signing bonus, if any, in the first year of the contract plus base salary and any other bonuses. Salaries aren't guaranteed. Players and salaries included are as of Oct. 1.

Other Hawai'i players and their 2008 earnings are:

    BILLS

TEAM'S TOP PASS-RUSHER SCHOBEL DOWN, NOT OUT

Buffalo's top pass-rusher Aaron Schobel will spend at least the next week with his left foot in a cast, but is not expected to miss the rest of the season.

Schobel had the cast placed on his foot to protect a sprained ligament in his big toe after the player was examined by a specialist in North Carolina, a person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press yesterday.

Schobel, who has already missed three games, could be back by the end of the month, the person said on condition of anonymity because the Bills have not have not released information on the severity of the injury.

    JAGUARS

    LB PETERSON FACING BENCHING, SUSPENSION

Jacksonville linebacker Mike Peterson was sent home again yesterday and probably will be benched or suspended for this weekend's game at Detroit.

Coach Jack Del Rio was still deciding how to punish the Jaguars' captain, who was asked to leave Wednesday after a confrontation with the coach during a team meeting that day.

According to teammates, Del Rio called out Peterson for his muscle-flexing celebration following a shoestring sack at Cincinnati on Sunday. Del Rio was upset that Peterson was reveling a play in a game the Jaguars trailed 21-3.

Del Rio could make Peterson inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions or he could suspend the former Florida standout without pay for conduct detrimental to the team.

    ELSEWHERE

49ers: Receiver Arnaz Battle will miss San Francisco's game at Arizona on Monday night with a sprained right foot. Battle, the 49ers' second-leading receiver with 24 catches for 318 yards, has played in 42 consecutive games. The six-year veteran also occasionally returns kickoffs and punts while serving as San Francisco's No. 3 receiver.

Jets: New York will be without leading tackler David Harris for at least two to three weeks after he had surgery on his injured groin, according to published reports. Harris, who leads the Jets with 52 tackles in his second season, had a procedure Wednesday, the Daily News and Star-Ledger of Newark reported yesterday.

Raiders: Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell was not able to finish practice yesterday because of tendinitis in his right knee. He is expected to play Sunday against Carolina. Russell took most of the reps with the first-team offense but skipped the final eight plays after complaining of soreness in his knee.

Rams: St. Louis running back Steven Jackson is optimistic he'll be able to play Sunday at New York against the Jets, but his coach needs to see evidence why. Jackson, still nursing a thigh injury suffered Oct. 19 against Dallas, did not practice for the second straight day. He'll try to give it a go today.

Seahawks: Matt Hasselbeck did not make his anticipated return to the practice field yesterday, casting some doubt over whether Seattle's quarterback will be ready to make his scheduled start next week against Arizona. The Seahawks, with backup Seneca Wallace making his fourth consecutive start, play at Miami on Sunday.

Steelers: Pittsburgh running back Willie Parker missed practice for the second day yesterday because of a shoulder injury — not the sprained knee that kept him out of four games — and his status for Sunday's game against Indianapolis.
