go! raises fares to match Hawaiian

go! airline said it has matched fare increases announced last week by Hawaiian Airlines.

The discount carrier yesterday raised its lowest fares from $54 to $64 on all flights between Honolulu and Kaua'i and Maui.

The carrier also increased its lowest fares on flights between Honolulu and the Big Island by $10 to $69.


AMERICAN TO END CHICAGO ROUTE

American Airlines said it will discontinue several of its flights as part of a cost-cutting move, including ending its Chicago-Honolulu service on Jan. 5.

American also said it will end its Chicago-Buenos Aires service and Boston-San Diego service on Sept. 3. In addition, it will restructure American and American Eagle operations at San Juan, Puerto Rico, beginning in September. The changes are part of the airline's previously announced plans to cut domestic flight capacity by 11 percent to 12 percent amid soaring fuel prices.


WORKSHOP FOR MUSICIANS JUNE 7

The state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism will sponsor a workshop June 7 designed to help musical artists market their music on the Internet.

DBEDT is partnering with The Recording Academy Pacific Northwest Chapter to present the event, which will feature presentations and interactive workshops.

"The state's Creative Industries Division is committed to expanding the reach of Hawai'i's recording artists by providing assistance on how to market their creative talents," said Creative Industries Division Chief Georja Skinner. "This event will provide an opportunity to network and learn new ways to market their talents globally."

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. Admission is free for academy members and $50 for the general public.


NATURE PROTECTION GROUP FORMED

A partnership of public and private landowners has been created to protect watersheds and natural resources across more than 1 million acres on Mauna Loa, Kilauea and Hualalai on the Big Island.

The Three Mountain Alliance watershed partnership will consist of nine partners who will cooperate under a memorandum of understanding and a recently completed management plan.

The partnership includes the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, state Department of Public Safety, National Park Service (Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service, Kamehameha Schools and The Nature Conservancy of Hawai'i.

The group will focus on protection of native habitats and species and will benefit the community by managing upland, forested portions of the watershed that provide essential groundwater, water filtration and flood reduction.


KGB USA TO OFFER DIRECTORY SERVICE

Hawai'i-based Pacific LightNet has selected a U.S.-based company offering local 411 directory assistance for its business and residential customers.

The company chose kgb USA, a voice directory services company with offices in Honolulu. The company switched to kgb USA after its previous provider, Metro One Telecommunications, ceased its directory service business.
