Moanalua High School junior Tadd Fujikawa shot even-par 72 Friday and made the cut of the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup at Tojigaoka Marine Hills Golf Club in Okayama, Japan.
Fujikawa, 17, has a two-round total of 2-under-par 142. He was in a tie for 37th with 14 others.
The cut in the $971,000 Japan Golf Tour Organization tournament was 1-under 141. The top 60 and ties were to advance to the final two rounds.
It was the second time this month that Fujikawa made the cut in a JGTO event — he finished 48th at The Crowns — and the third time he's made a cut since turning pro last year.Hideto Tanihara shot a 67 Friday for a 36-hole total of 12-under 132 and a two-stroke lead over Toru Taniguchi, who shot a 66, and Nobuhito Sato, who shot a 69.
Fujikawa, who started on the back nine, bogeyed the 13th and 16th holes and birdied the 14th to make the turn 1-under for the tournament.
A bogey on the par-4 first hole dropped him to even-par, a stroke below the projected cut. But he birdied the par-5 second hole, then strung together five straight pars to stay on the cut line.
A birdie on the par-4 eighth gave Fujikawa some breathing room and he closed his round by parring the par-4 ninth.
