ROME — Jelena Jankovic of Serbia defeated French qualifier Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-2 today to win her second straight Italian Open.
The fourth-seeded Jankovic took a 5-1 lead in the opening set. In the second set, she was leading 4-1 when she called the trainer to look at her right shoulder.
Jankovic lost the following game — the first time in the match Cornet held serve — but wrapped up the match when she held serve and then broke her opponent at love.
