One of the outside consultants for Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawai'i, said last night that the campaign works hard to remain separate from Abercrombie's congressional activities.
Abercrombie's Ward Warehouse campaign office is "totally separate" from his Ho-nolulu congressional office at the Federal Building, said Bill Kaneko, one of Abercrombie's Honolulu-based consultants.
"We do Christmas cards and fundraisers and have a totally separate office that we maintain for campaign activities," Kaneko said.
In Washington, Abercrombie runs his campaign out of the offices of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about a block and a half from his congressional office.
Out of the $810,000 that Abercrombie spent on his 2006 reelection campaign, none of it went to his legislative staff, according to his campaign finance report.
"We want to make sure the record is straight," Kaneko said. "We're not hiding anything."
