HONOLULU – As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's comprehensive process of reviewing legislation passed this session by the Legislature, Gov. Linda Lingle is encouraging the public to provide input and comments on more than 200 bills.
The governor has until July 8 to sign, veto or allow the measures to become law without her signature. Of the 294 bills passed this session, 71 have already become law or were vetoed.
The remaining 223 bills are being carefully reviewed by the governor's policy team, as well as the attorney general's office for legal implications, the Department of Budget and Finance for fiscal and budgetary implications, and appropriate departments and agencies.
As she has done in prior years, the governor is seeking comments on bills from the public, including individuals, businesses, industry and professional associations, nonprofit groups, and community organizations statewide. In addition, the administration is soliciting input from the counties, law enforcement agencies and state boards and commissions.
"The public's voice is critically important as we continue to review these measures and assess the impact they will have on our residents and the future of our state," Lingle said.
