Blaze scorches 25 acres southeast of Maunaloa
A wildfire yesterday burned about 25 acres in the mountain area of Pu'unana, southeast of Maunaloa, before being declared under control, according to Moloka'i authorities.
Officials said the fire was reported under control at 3:15 p.m.
There was no threat to property and communication towers in the area were not damaged, said Moloka'i police Sgt. Tim Meyer.
Maui County spokeswoman Mahina Martin said the fire started about noon and the firefight involved two helicopters, heavy equipment and a water tanker. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
