Wal-Mart rolls out $10 drug program here, nationally

Advertiser Staff

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Hawai'i will be included in its new prescription program that featurs a 90-day supply of generic drugs for $10, although the prices for some of the 350 drugs in the program may be higher here.

The country's largest retailer rolled out the program nationally today, along with adding more drugs to its discount program for women's medicines and a new $4 program for over-the-counter drugs. It said about one-third of its over-the-counter medicines are now $4 or lower. The program is available at its Sam's Club warehouse chain.

The retailer noted, though, that certain drugs may be priced higher than $10 for a 90-day supply or $4 for a 30-day supply in Hawai'i and eight other states.

Wal-Mart joins other retailers in providing discounts on 90-day supplies, including Kmart, which has been offering more than 300 generic medicines in such quantities for $15.

Wal-Mart has been offering 30-day supplies for $4 each since late 2006.

Wal-Mart operates eight of its discount stores in Hawai'i and two Sam's Clubs.
