Penn State beats Ohio State in NCAA men's volleyball semis

IRVINE, Calif. — Matt Anderson had 30 kills to lead top-ranked Penn State to a 30-21, 26-30, 30-22, 30-27 victory over Ohio State tonight in the semifinals of the NCAA men's volleyball tournament.
Ryan Sweitzer added 17 kills, Max Lipsitz had 10 block assists, Dennis Del Valle made 14 digs and Luke Murray had 50 assists for the Nittany Lions (29-1), who will face either Long Beach State or Pepperdine in the final Saturday.
Brett Versen had 13 kills and six digs for the fourth-seeded Buckeyes (20-8). Daniel Mathews added 32 assists and Conor Martin made seven digs to finish as Ohio State's career leader in the category with 743.
The third game proved pivotal. With the score tied at 17, Penn State used a 7-1 surge to take a 24-18 lead. Anderson had two kills and two block assists in the surge, and Lipsitz added four block assists.
The Nittany Lions finished with a .410 hitting percentage, while Ohio State hit .108.
