A 22-year-old male moped operator was critically injured yesterday in a collision with a vehicle on Farrington Highway, 215 feet west of Lahilahi Street in Makaha.
The accident was reported at 5:59 p.m.
Police vehicular homicide Sgt. Alan Vegas said the man on a 1992 Honda moped was headed east in the westbound lane of Farrington Highway in an attempt to pass a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. The collision occurred when the Cherokee made a left turn, Vegas said.
The injured man was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center.
The 17-year-old male driver of the Cherokee and his two passengers — a man and woman, both 18 — were not injured.
The moped operator was not wearing a helmet. Speed was an apparent factor, Vegas said.
