Feel the 'Energy'
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Underground raves may not be drawing the crowds they did in years past, but local promoters are determined to keep the bright lights, smoke machines and laser beams alive. "Mainstreamers need to take notice, because we set trends, not follow them," says promoter DJ IKON of Hawai'i's underground dance music scene.
Along with DJs PSI, Tide, Erick, G-Spot, Scarrd, Jaegurl and Big Daddy Dave, IKON will preside over "Energy" on Saturday at The Shop, 580 Dillingham Blvd. — it's on the second floor, above Auto Detail. Doors open at 9 p.m.; $5 presale tickets are available at www.groovetickets.com. or $10 at the door.

'LUST' BACK TO ROOTS
When The Hell Caminos kick out their rapid-fire rhythms, before you know it, you're knocking out a guy in the mosh pit (or at least thinking about it), and banging your head to each note. The local rockabilly/punk band has been spotted around town at every venue that allows them to rock out, but they won't be seen for a while, because the rock 'n' roll boys are on a national tour for the next two months, promoting their newest album, "Lust."
"This album is back to our roots — it's more of a punk album, it's a lot faster," says the band's bassist, Michael Camino. "A lot of the songs are about relationships, getting with your girlfriend, breaking up, until there is nothing but lust. We also have a song about growing up in Kailua, but for the most part, it's about girls."
The "Lust" CD can be purchased at Jelly's, 98-023 Hekaha St., Suite B1-9, in 'Aiea); $10.

'SACRED ARTS' GIFT SHOP WORTH A LOOK-SEE
A rewarding last stop at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' exhibit "The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan" is the little jewel of a gift shop set up just for the duration of the exhibit (through May 23). Unlike the usual, predictable museum collection of books and prints, this gem offers an opportunity to purchase a protective deity mask (worn by Bhutanese dancers, at a range of prices), a handwoven sheep's wool bag ($45), World Peace Incense ($16.50) or fabulous handwoven belts of varying widths called kera ($67.50) that can be worn at the waist, on the hip, or as a scarf or hat band.
Even the Dragon's Gift T-shirts are elegant, in black or red with gorgeous graphics ($27.50). And while the woven wonders in the textile exhibition are not to be touched, much less worn, the fabrics and blankets in the shop can be handled to your heart's content.

STYLISH SPOT COMES BOTTLED
Milanese style maven and former fashion editor Carla Sozzani has created a universe all her own at 10 Corso Como. Inspired by exotic Oriental bazaars and Biba, the swinging '60s London boutique, the fashionable site signifies a unique blend of art, fashion, design, cuisine and culture from around the world. Now we in Honolulu can get a sense of this unique environment through Sozzani's newest offering, a scent named after her address: 10 Corso Como. The top notes are rose and geranium, and the heart of the fragrance is ood wood, a native of the virgin forests of Borneo, paired with crisp green vetiver; the body of the scent is musk and sandalwood. 10 Corso Como comes in bath pearls, body lotion and eau de parfum, all available exclusively at Neiman Marcus for $40 to $115.
