Airline experts say the demise of Aloha will lead to higher interisland fares.
Peter Forman, a local aviation industry historian, believes go! and Hawaiian airlines will have to raise fares, and will likely raise them later this year, from the current $49 to $75, given the high fuel prices and the reduced passenger capacity.
"The day of reckoning is coming soon for those of us who have enjoyed the fare war for the past year and a half," Forman said.
