Smaller Ko Olina retail center moving ahead

A small retail development is moving ahead at Ko Olina Resort and Marina after a year's delay and redesign that reduced the size of what still will be the first shopping complex at the expanding West O'ahu resort.
Fine-dining restaurant Nick's Fishmarket, a gourmet grocery, Kimo Bean Coffee Co. and home furnishing store Blue Lobster Cottage are among tenants committed to the two-building project called Ko Olina Station and Ko Olina Center.
Other tenants include Z Pizza, Ko Olina Barbeque and shoe retailer Walking in Paradise. However, a gas station is no longer part of the plan for the project at 'Olani Street and Ali'inui Drive on the mauka side leading into The Coconut Plantation residential subdivision.
The project by local developer Honu Group Inc. was announced in September 2006 and was projected to open early this year. The complex also was initially designed to be 80,000 square feet split between a one-story and three-story building. The project now is 56,000 square feet between a one-story and a two-story building.
Construction recently began and is slated for completion in September 2009.
