DES MOINES, Iowa — The whistle blew just in time for Andrea Riley and Oklahoma State.

Riley sank a free throw with 0.7 seconds left in overtime to give Oklahoma State a 73-72 victory over a gritty Florida State team yesterday in the second round of the New Orleans Regional.

The back-and-forth game appeared headed to a second overtime when Riley was trapped 18 feet from the basket with time about to run out. She went up for what would have been an awkward shot and official Teresa Dahlem whistled a foul on Florida State's (19-4) Shante Williams as the buzzer sounded.

The officials then checked the TV monitor and put 0.7 seconds on the clock. Riley, who had missed two free throws on her previous trip to the line, bricked the first one but nailed the second, then intercepted Florida State's long inbounds pass, allowing the Cowgirls to escape.

"I've always dreamed about making the big play at the end, on TV," Riley said.

The third-seeded Cowgirls (27-7) will play No. 2 seed LSU in the regional semifinals Saturday.

LSU 68, Marist 49: Sylvia Fowles had 19 points and 13 rebounds to help the Tigers (29-5) beat the Red Foxes (32-3) in Baton Rouge, La., and end their 22-game winning streak. Fowles also became the leading rebounder in the history of the Southeastern Conference with 1,527.

Texas A&M 63, Hartford 39: Danielle Gant scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead the Aggies (28-7) to a dominant victory over the 10th-seeded Hawks (28-6). Texas A&M will play the winner of today's Duke-Arizona State game Sunday.

At Stanford, Calif.

Stanford 88, UTEP 54: Candice Wiggins scored a school-record-tying 44 points to lead the second-seeded Cardinal (32-3) past the Miners (28-4). Stanford will play Saturday against sixth-seeded Pittsburgh.

At Albuquerque, N.M.

Pittsburgh 67, Baylor 59: Shavonte Zellous scored 19 points and grabbed a key late rebound to lead the No. 6 seed Panthers (24-10) over the Bears (25-7). Pitt is in a regional semifinal for the first time in school history.

Vanderbilt 64, West Virginia 46: Christina Wirth scored 21 points and reserve Jessica Mooney added 11 to help the fourth-seeded Commodores (25-8) beat the Mountaineers (25-8). Vanderbilt will meet the winner of today's game between Nebraska and Maryland.

At Stanford, Calif.

George Washington 55, California 53: Sarah-Jo Lawrence rebounded a missed shot and beat the buzzer with a shot from the baseline to give the sixth-seeded Colonials (27-6) a comeback win over the No. 3 Bears (27-7).

At Des Moines, Iowa

Rutgers 69, Iowa State 58: Kia Vaughn scored 23 points as the Scarlet Knights (26-6) advanced to the regional semifinals for the fourth straight year by beating the Cyclones (21-13). Rutgers will face George Washington in the regional semifinals Sunday.
