H-1 'ewa-bound lanes closed following overpass collision
The two right-hand lanes of the 'ewa bound H-1 Freeway are closed after a truck carrying a crane or large piece of construction equipment clipped the bottom edge of the Gulick Street overpass, sending debris onto the freeway.
The collision occurred at 7:52 a.m. No one was injured, police dispatchers said.
Traffic is slow but still moving, said Scott Ishikawa, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
In September 2006, a military rig hauling an excavator crashed into an 'Aiea overpass, causing one of Hawai'i's worst traffic jams.
Inspectors are en route this morning to the Gulick Street overpass but initial reports are that the damage was minimal, Ishikawa said.
"It looks structurally sound," he said.
