Manoa Marketplace will lose its hybrid Taco Bell and Pizza Hut restaurant next week after franchisee TD Food Group Inc. decided to close the business.
The company notified customers that Tuesday will be the store's last day of operations, and that all employees will be transferring to one of six other Taco Bell locations from Makiki to Kahala.
A TD Food representative could not be reached for more information.
The company has listed the 1,500-square-foot store space for sublease at $5 per square foot per month plus $1.60 a month per square foot in operating expenses through May 31, 2012.
The neighborhood retail center at 2851 E. Manoa Road is anchored by Safeway and Longs Drugs and is home to about a dozen restaurants, including McDonald's, Subway, Paesano Ristorante Italiano and Pearl's Korean BBQ.
The Taco Bell/Pizza Hut was open for the past few years, according to a sign posted on the store. The restaurant offered only carry-out business and was not a typical format for Pizza Hut or Taco Bell.
TD Food is the franchise owner of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurant in Hawai'i. The company, which was formed by the California-based private investment firm Brentwood Associates to purchase 85 restaurants from the owner of Theo H. Davies & Co. Ltd. in late 2004, operates in the neighborhood of 90 restaurants in Hawai'i, Guam and Saipan.
