Golf: McDowell takes 2-shot lead in South Korea

Associated Press

JEJU ISLAND, South Korea – Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland overcame strong wind to shoot an 8-under-par 64 today for a two-shot lead halfway through the inaugural Ballantines Championship, the first European tour event in South Korea.

McDowell was at 12-under 132 after two rounds. Johan Edfors of Sweden (65) and Jeev Milkha Singh of India (66) shared second. Kim Hyung-tae of South Korea (66) and Paul McGinley of Ireland (67) were another shot back.

Play was suspended for more than two hours in the morning because of gusts. Forty-seven players face an early start Saturday, and the cut will be determined when they finish their rounds.

"It was blowing 30 miles an hour probably when we teed off," McDowell said.

Anthony Kim of the United States (68) and Padraig Harrington of Ireland (65) were four shots off the lead. South Korean star K.J. Choi (69) was eight strokes back.
