Two more meetings set for Leeward Habitat project

Advertiser Staff

Habitat for Humanity Leeward O'ahu is planning two additional information sessions for families wanting to apply for low-cost homes.

More than 200 families packed Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center in Nanakuli on Monday to apply for the opportunity to build one of the homes. The Monday information meeting was the first out of three meetings through which families will be chosen to build their own home in Leeward Habitat's 31-home subdivision named Kaukamana Hale due to begin construction this fall.

To receive an application for this project, families must attend one of the following sessions:

• Saturday, March 15, 10 a.m.-noon, Wai'anae District Park, Multipurpose Room, 85-601 Farrington Highway

• Monday, March 24, 5 -7 p.m., Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center at Nanakuli, 89-101 Farrington Highway

Leeward Habitat partners with low-income families who are ready for the responsibility and challenges of homeownership but would not qualify for a traditional mortgage. If you have a steady income, (sources of income considered include employment income for all adult family members; social assistance; spousal and child support; child care supplements; child tax benefits; pensions and disability income), earn 50% or less than the median area income, and you are willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity Leeward O'ahu by completing 500 hours of sweat equity (volunteering with Habitat) and paying back a zero percent mortgage, then you should attend the Information Session to explore the opportunity of becoming a Homeowner.
