Golf: Chia, Dougherty share Malaysia Open lead

Associated Press

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Danny Chia shot a 5-under 67 today to claim a share of the lead after two rounds of the Malaysian Open and position himself to become the first local winner in the event's 47-year history.

Chia is a joint leader with England's Nick Dougherty — who birdied the 18th hole for a 70 — on a two-round aggregate of 12-under 132 at the Kota Permai course.

They have a one-stroke lead over Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen, who had an eagle on his seventh hole en route to a 68, and India's Jyoti Randhawa, who was among about a quarter of the field who could not complete their rounds on a day interrupted by lightning and cut short by darkness.

Defending champion Peter Hedblom of Sweden was on 10-under, along with Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell and Argentina's Rafael Echenique, who only completed 11 holes in his second round of the jointly sanctioned European Tour and Asian Tour event.
