The 2008 Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship will be conducted at Ka'anapali Golf Resort this weekend.

There are 126 Hawai'i juniors playing, with those 9-years-old and up playing 18 holes a day and those 8-under nine holes.

Winners of the 13-18 boys' and girls' divisions qualify to join more than 150 of the nation's top junior golfers in the Junior PGA Championship, Aug. 13 to 16, at TPC River's Bend in Cincinnati. The 33rd national Junior PGA Championship is open to one boy and one girl champion from each of the 41 PGA Sections, winners of select national junior tournaments conducted throughout the year and special invitees who have not reached their 19th birthdays and who have not started college.

Hawai'i's Stephanie Kono won the national title in 2005 and Reynold Lee in 1988. This year's field includes Bradley Shigezawa, Taeksoo Kim, David Fink, Lorens Chan, Cory Oride, Jared Sawada, Kristina Merkle, Kelcie Kawano, Anna Jang, Haley Young, Marissa Chow, Cassy Isagawa, Allisen Corpuz, Sian Rogers and Eimi Koga.

WOMEN DRIVERS TOURNEY AUG. 4

Entries are still being accepted for the fifth annual Women Drivers Golf Tournament, Aug. 4 at noon at Mid-Pacific Country Club. The event is presented by Hawai'i Medical Assurance Association. All proceeds benefit Women's Fund of Hawai'i, a grant-making organization that focuses on helping women and girls become "safe, financially secure and empowered."

Grants from the Women's Fund address issues of violence, adolescent pregnancy, low self-esteem, physical and mental health problems, substance abuse, prostitution, incarceration, immigration status, sexual orientation, inadequate childcare and sports inequalities.

Cost per four-woman team is $700. A Mercedes-Benz goes to the first to ace the 11th hole.

The second Mayors' Challenge Cup starts Aug. 2 and 3 with the O'ahu qualifier at Ala Wai. The 16 qualifiers for the O'ahu and Kaua'i teams will compete Aug. 30 and 31 at Wailua Golf Course. The event is open to juniors, men and women. The Kaua'i qualifier follows a different format and is Aug. 2 to 17 at Wailua. Applications are at municipal courses and online at 808golf.com.
