Work by children's book author on view

"Barry Moser: The Art of the Book" exhibition, being held in conjunction with the Fourteenth Biennial Conference on Literature and Hawai'i's Children, will be on view until Aug. 3 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Museum Learning Center.
Moser, who calls himself a booksmith, focuses on the concept, format, paper and typography before considering illustrations. On view in the exhibition are a selection of his books, his watercolors and wood engravings.
Moser, a Methodist preacher before studying etching and wood engravings, created with hand-set type in 1969. In 1982, he received the American Book Award for design and illustration for his version of "Alice in Wonderland." His work is included in the collections of the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
