NBA: Celtics fans gather in Boston to celebrate title
Associated Press
BOSTON — Boston is going green.
Fans were lining up and the Celtics were getting ready for Thursday's "rolling rally" to celebrate their first championship in 22 years. Trains into the city and the TD Banknorth Garden's souvenir shop were jammed in anticipation of the parade kickoff at 11 a.m. (5 a.m. Hawaii time).
Owners Wyc and Irv Grousbeck showed off a 2008 championship banner in the hallway at the Garden similar to the 16 others already hanging from the rafters. Coach Doc Rivers commissioned replica banners for the owners and players.
Irv Grousbeck said it is "the first of several, we hope."
Wyc Grousbeck said he doesn't know what to expect from the rally, because he's "always been a spectator."
Sixteen World War II-era amphibious "duck boats" will carry the Celtics players, owners and staff through the city. The rally starts at the Garden.
