MACOYA, Trinidad — Bermuda upset Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier today, a shocking result against a team that played in the 2006 World Cup.
John Barry Nusum scored in the eighth and 39th minutes for Bermuda, which was eliminated by El Salvador in the second round of qualifying four years ago. Stern John scored in the 23rd minute for Trinidad and Tobago.
The second match of the home-and-home, total-goals series will be played June 22 at Bermuda. The winner advances to a semifinal group likely to include the United States, Cuba and Guatemala.
