High surf advisory posted for south-facing shores

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the south-facing shores of all islands to remain in effect now through Saturday morning.

A low pressure system south of New Zealand about a week ago generated a long-period south swell which is now reaching th islands, the Weather Service said,

Surf along south-facing shores is expected to peak this morning and remain near advisory level through Saturday morning. forecasters said. Surf of 5 to 8 feet is expected along the south-facing shores.

The advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Elsewhere today, expect surf of 2 to 4 feet along east-facing shores; 2 feet or less along north-facing shores and 3 to 5 feet along west-facing shores.
