From not having enough players to even field a team the previous two years to a 9-2 record and second-place finish in the OIA White Conference regular season, it was quite a softball revival for Waialua this spring.

At the center of it were junior pitcher Marissa Keao and her coach/father, Jay. Fittingly, the Keaos swept top postseason honors after a vote of league coaches.

Marissa was named White Conference Player of the Year, and Jay was named Coach of the Year.

Marissa threw two no-hitters, two one-hitters, a two-hitter and a three-hitter. She had a 13-strikeout game, one with 12 Ks and another with 10.

Wai'anae led the way with four players selected to the OIA White all-star first team: first baseman Tanisha Aniya, third baseman Tifanie Tapeni, shortstop Brittni Crabbe and outfielder Ashley Pittman.

Waialua placed three players on the first team: Keao, second baseman Althia Dicion and utility player Kimberly Meyerowitz.

Farrington was represented by catcher Kinciana Ngiralmau and designated player Felicia Tui. Outfielders Trudy Hong of McKinley and Samantha Sevao of Radford round out the first team.

Jay Keao was recognized for reviving the Bulldogs program with 14 players, many of whom were newcomers to the sport.
