The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $5.2 million grant to help approximately 710 Hawai'i workers laid off following the closure of Aloha and ATA airlines.

The grant includes an initial $3.3 million to provide workers with a range of re-employment services, including skills assessment, individual career counseling, and career and occupational skills training.

"This grant will provide immediate assistance to these Hawai'i residents that have been affected by these layoffs," said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "The state of Hawai'i is working hard to ensure these workers have access to important re-employment services that will help them get back to work as quickly as possible."

The grant will be administered by the Hawai'i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
