Television star Kelsey Grammer was hospitalized after suffering a "mild" heart attack at his home in Hawaii on May 31.

Grammer, 53, was resting comfortably and is expected to be released later this week, publicist Stan Rosenfield said today in an e-mailed statement.

The actor and his wife, Camille, were paddle-boarding at their coastal home on the island of Hawaii when he experienced heart-attack symptoms and was taken to a hospital, Rosenfield said. His recent TV credits include portraying a newscaster on the Fox network's "Back to You," which wasn't renewed.

Grammer won four Emmy awards for his starring role in "Frasier," the situation comedy based on the character he created in "Cheers." He also won an Emmy for providing the voice of Sideshow Bob in the animated series "The Simpsons."

In "Cheers" and "Frasier," Grammer played the pompous psychiatrist Frasier Crane.
