If Katie Sisler is anything on a golf course, it is consistent.

Sisler, an 18-year-old UC Davis student, shot her second consecutive 1-over-par 73 yesterday to take a three-shot lead at the HSWGA Stroke Play Championships at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Sisler's round yesterday included a birdie on the front nine and consecutive bogeys on the back.

"Fifteen pars ... can't complain too much," said Sisler, a 2007 Punahou School graduate, who is at 2-over 146 after 36 holes.

If she did have one complaint it would be her iron play.

"I wasn't hitting them as solid as I wanted to," Sisler said. "I was really getting up and down on the front nine."

Sisler likely won't have to be "sizzling" in today's final round to win the crown.

Only two players have shot rounds under par in the tournament with both coming yesterday.

Hayley Young shot a 1-under 71 for a 149 total and second place. Kaili Britos shot a 73 and is third at 150.

"Everything is going well," said Young, who will be a senior at Mid-Pacific Institute in the fall. "Everything was solid. A lot of putts were going in and I didn't have as many mistakes today."

Miki Ueoka was the other player under par, also firing a 71 — 10 shots better than Tuesday — to claim fourth at 152. Jaclyn Hilea is fifth at 153.

Defending champion Xyra Suyetsugu, paired with Sisler in the final group, struggled to a 79 and is tied for seventh at 155.

Suyetsugu birdied the 16th, but double bogeyed the 17th after her tee shot traveled out of bounds, and bogeyed the 18th after finding the right rough near a cart path.

Sisler found success despite being consistently out-driven by 25 yards off the tee by Suyetsugu.

Sisler's only troubles came on the 14th and 15th holes.

She three-putted the 14th and left a bunker shot way short of the hole on the 15th. Sisler recovered from the back-to-back bogeys by parring the final three holes.

Sisler pointed out she also bogeyed the 15th on Tuesday.

"The 15th gave me trouble yesterday," she said.

Sisler said she didn't have time to practice on the Mid-Pacific Country Club course prior to the tournament, but was familiar with the layout from her playing days at Punahou.

Sisler's older brother, Jack, a student at Santa Clara, is her caddie.

"He knows my game a lot," Sisler said. "He helps me read the greens and keeps me motivated."

The final round starts at 8:30 this morning.
