Wai'anae's Kala Kolohe Hose is hungry, and it has nothing to do with his weight loss.

In his first bout since an upset loss to Bubba McDaniel last month, Hose will face Alaska's Rolando Dominique in the main event of the Icon Sport: Hard Times mixed martial arts card on Saturday at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

"After that loss, I grabbed a tissue box, did my crying, then went straight to the gym," Hose said. "I need to put that loss behind me. That's why I'm kind of happy I'm fighting again so fast. I really want to get back in there."

Hose is the middleweight (185 pounds) champion of the Icon Sport organization. His title was not on the line in the loss to McDaniel.

Saturday's bout will also be a non-title match because it will take place at 180 pounds.

Hose said it is part of a process to possibly hold titles in both the middleweight and welterweight (170 pounds) divisions.

"I want to see if I can get down to 170 eventually and maybe hold the title in two divisions," he said. "So this is going to be a good test for me because this is the lightest I've ever been for a fight."

Hose has a professional record of 6-2, and the loss to McDaniel stopped a six-fight winning streak. He said the loss reminded him of his high school football career, when he was a running back for Wai'anae High and successful regular seasons always ended with playoff losses.

"You always win, and you get that one loss, you take it hard," he said.

McDaniel beat him with a rear naked choke in the first round.

Hose said he has worked on defending the choke in recent weeks, whether he liked it or not.

"Ever since that loss, everybody has been trying to rear naked choke me every day in practice," he said. "But I'm ready. I haven't done anything different, just eating more clean to watch my weight."

Dominique has a professional record of 3-0, and said Saturday will be the biggest bout of his career, even without a championship on the line.

"I've fought in Alaska, Seattle, and some other places, but nothing big like Icon Sport," Dominique said. "So I'm excited to be a part of it and show what I can do."

Dominique said he has "an all-around" training background that was honed even in the frozen winters in Fairbanks, Alaska.

"People think just because it's minus-20 (degrees), you can't do anything," he said. "But it's the opposite for me. When it's that cold, all I do is train. It's all indoors, and you can't go out."

Hose described Dominique as "explosive" after watching him on video.

"He's more of a striker/wrestler, so I don't expect him to come out like (McDaniel)," Hose said. "It should be a tough fight."

Hose beat New York's Phil Baroni for the Icon Sport middleweight championship in an epic back-and-forth battle in March.

Baroni will face Hawai'i's Ron Verdadero on the undercard of Saturday's event, so a rematch with Hose could be in the works.

"What ever (Icon Sport officials) want me to do, I'll be ready," Hose said. "If they want me to fight at 170, I can do that; if they want me to defend the title at 185, I can do that."
