"Kamau," an Island drama by Alan Apio earlier staged by Kumu Kahua in Honolulu, will be revived by Bare & Core Expression in a limited run beginning Aug. 14 at the Ulua Theatre at Pu Mu, 19-4325 Haunani Road, at Volcano Village on the Big Island. The production features Hollywood actor and Volcano resident Jason Scott Lee, at whose theater the show unfolds.

Bare & Core, like Kumu Kahua, supports and presents Island-themed plays with multicultural impact. "Kamau" is the group's second theatrical endeavor.

The play deals with a Hawaiian family torn between the past and the present — posed with the question of preserving tradition or surviving in a changing contemporary world. Due to strong language, the production is not suitable for children.

Lee, who has starred in film spectacles such as "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, "Rapa Nui" and "The Jungle Book," is founder of the Ulua Theatre, where he has set up his home and his space for theater, co-existing with his lifestyle of conservation amid an environment of nature, healing and calm. Lee plays one of the principal cousins in the plot.

Christian Pa portrays Alika, the lead character, with roles taken by Jace Saplan, Ron Serrao, Isaac Pedro, Desiree Cruz, Laura Caswell, Angela Nakamura, Kalani Spain, Susan McGovern and Jay Robinson. Bonnie Kim is directing.

Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., with playdates set for Aug. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23.
