A 20-year-old male pedestrian struck by a farm truck last night on the Big Island has been transferred to The Queen's Medical Center with critical injuries, according to police.

A South Hilo patrol report says the collision occurred on Indian Tree Road in the Pepe'ekeo agriculture lots south of Route 19 Hawai'i Belt Road at 7:17 p.m. The pedestrian, struck by a farm truck hauling produce to a processing area, suffered numerous head and body injuries, police said.

The injured man was taken to Hilo Medical Center by private vehicle after he collapsed on the roadway and then flown to Honolulu.

Police have classified the case as a negligent injury investigation.
