Heavy rain forced the postponement of the second round of match play at the 2008 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship yesterday at the 6,265-yard, par-71 Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Conn.
The second round will start this morning and the third round will be played in the afternoon. The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played tomorrow and the 36-hole final will be played Sunday.
Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim will take on Marina Alex, of Wayne, N.J., in a second-round match today at 1:09 a.m., Hawai'i time.
FINK PLACES SECOND

SURFBOARD POLO
TOURNEY ON SUNDAY
The inaugural Peter Cole Invitational Surfboard Polo Tourney will be held on Sunday at Waimea Bay.
The event will feature several matches of surfboard polo — which is water polo played on surfboards. The matches are scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to around 3 p.m.
The event was created to honor Peter Cole, a pioneer of big-wave surfing in the 1950s and '60s. He was also an avid swimmer and water polo player.
Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection of the world's oceans, waves and beaches.

The USOC program also has competitions in basketball, soccer and track and field.

Athletes qualified for Chicago by winning age and gender divisions at one of 150 regional events and 7,500 local qualifiers. Some 1.7 million kids tried out.
