Hawai'i professional Tadd Fujikawa shot a 1-over par 73 Thursday in the opening round of the Nagashima Shigeo Invitational Sega Sammy Cup at The North Country Golf Club in Hokkaido, Japan.

Fujikawa, a 17-year-old Moanalua High student, was eight strokes behind clubhouse leaders Koumei Oda and Jun Kikuchi, who shot 65s. Several golfers were yet to complete their rounds.

The top 60 scores and ties after the second round advance to the weekend.

Fujikawa is playing in his third Japan Golf Tour event this year. He made the cut in his two previous Japan tournaments.
