New 5 p.m. anchor on KHNL

Mari-Ela David will anchor the KHNL News 8 at 5 p.m. weekday newscasts, beginning July 25.
KHNL news director Dan Dennison said David will replace Walter Makaula, who is moving to KSWB-TV in San Diego where he will become weekend anchor and reporter.
"Mari-Ela has done a wonderful job the past year as our late reporter and fill-in anchor," Dennison said. "In her new role she will still be out in the field each day producing stories and then kicking off our afternoon news block."
David studied broadcast journalism at San Francisco State University and was weekend anchor and reporter at WKOW in Madison, Wis.; she also worked at California stations. She will be filling in on the NBC affiliate's morning show this week.
KAPAHULU CENTER AWARDED $25,000
Kapahulu Center, a not-for-profit organization serving senior citizens, has received a $25,000 grant from The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation.
The grant will be used for the center's renovation project.
TAX INSTITUTE SEEKS TOP ADVISER
The Hawaii Tax Institute said it is seeking nominations for its Adviser of the Year award.
It is accepting nominations from members of legal, accounting, investment, insurance, charitable and financial institutions of a tax, estate planning or financial professional. The entries are being accepted through Sept. 1. Nomination forms are available by contacting Karen at 527-2206.
CPB TO RELEASE 2ND-QUARTER RESULTS
Central Pacific Financial Corp. said it will release its second-quarter financial results on July 31 before the open of trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
At 7 a.m. Hawai'i time that day it will discuss the numbers during a conference call and audio Webcast available through the investor relations section of the company's Web site.
BUSINESS BANKING NOW ONLINE
Pacific Rim Bank said it has introduced new online business banking services.
The company said customers can check account balances, activity, statements, transfer money and pay bills with the new Business Banking Suite at www.pacificrimbank.com.
PRICEBUSTERS TO OPEN WARD STORE
Pricebusters said it will have a grand opening for its new Seasonal Store at Ward Centre in a space that previously was occupied by a Nordstrom shoe store. The shop features items such as Halloween costumes and Christmas accessories.
Also, Solstice Sunglass Boutique has opened a 600-square-foot boutique at the Kings Shops in Waikoloa.
HYBRID OWNERS GET REWARD DEALS
The first hybrid vehicle insurance program available in Hawai'i is being offered by DTRIC Insurance, according to the company. It said the program rewards qualifying hybrid vehicle owners by offering them its best insurance rates.
Also for hybrids, the Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union said it has come up with the "Go Green Auto Loan" that features a fixed interest rate as low as 4.40 APR for three years.
