The Army is planning to move 1,300 soldiers to Hawai'i over the next five years.

Congressman Neil Abercrombie says most of the soldiers will be based at Schofield Barracks.

Details of the relocation were included in the Army's just-completed Environmental Impact Statement for Army Growth and Force Structure Realignment.

The report analyzed the environmental and socio-economic impact of adding military personnel to bases in Hawai'i and Alaska.

The Army is required to evaluate the capacity of their bases to support the reassignment of troops as decisions are made about reallocating forces around the world.

Abercrombie says initial indications are that these would be various types of support troops such as engineers, military police and intelligence personnel.
