Over 1,000 children performed dances and skits Friday at Maui County's Play and Learn Sessions or PALS summer program ho'olaulea at War Memorial Gym in Wailuku.
The theme of the event was "Malama I Ke Kai" or "care for the sea."
The ho'olaulea was one of two events put on by the PALS program that involved all of the county's PALS participants. The other event called "Super Duper Day" took place June 30 to July 2 at the Pukalani Park and the Upcountry Aquatic Center on Maui. A similar event was held on Moloka'i.
"The best aspect of PALS is it provides a unique experience for the children of Maui County by incorporating both the cultural andphysical aspects of summer fun in a safe and nurturing program," said Margaret Manini, PALS site coordinator.
